WebP
WebP is the production default for Webflow. It delivers 25% to 35% smaller file sizes than traditional JPEG at equivalent visual quality, while providing native support for transparent alpha channels.
Best for: Hero banners, case study photography, blog editorial, team portraits, and large responsive backgrounds.

PNG

Best for: Brand logos, monochrome iconography, software screenshots, diagrams, and transparent UI cut-outs.

AVIF

Best for: Media-dense portfolios, art galleries, high-fashion lookbooks, and long-scroll creative agency case studies.
Agency tip: AVIF enjoys broad support across modern browsers. For sites with visually sophisticated audiences, AVIF allows you to display twice as many high-resolution visuals without increasing total page weight.
JPEG
JPEG is the thirty-year-old web standard. It offers universal compatibility with legacy operating systems, email clients, and older digital displays, but lacks alpha transparency and produces obvious block artefacts at low bitrates.
Best for: HTML email templates, legacy RSS feeds, enterprise intranet portals, or external syndication channels that reject modern image containers.
